Needlework is a broad term for the handicrafts of decorative sewing and textile arts. Anything that uses a needle for construction can be called needlework. The definition may expand to include related textile crafts such as a crochet hook or tatting shuttles. Similar abilities often transfer well between different varieties of needlework, such as fine motor skill and a knowledge of textile fibers. Some of the same tools may be used in several different varieties of needlework. For instance, a needle threader is useful in nearly all needlecrafts. Types of needlework

Q. study work on antiques Asked by JANE K - Sat Jul 1 17:37:10 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. As a designer of embroidery patterns in the Art Nouveau style, I did a great deal of research into this. A greater interest was being shown then for medieval designs, such as shown in the Book of Kells and other sacred literature, which were held in high esteem because they were made by hand, and not by machine. William Morris, along with Mae Morris and several others, were involved in adapting ancient design onto carpets and tapestries, ceramics and tiles, stained glass windows, all of which were made by hand, and new colours were dyed to enhance the designs. These included peacocks, Tudor-type flowers, acanthus leaves, birds and fruit, which were sewn in soft colours (not pastels), and became enormously popular at the end of the… [cont.] Answered by k0005kat@btinternet.com - Sun Jul 2 20:31:05 2006 What sewing machine to buy for hemming pants?
Q. I just want to buy a simple basic sewing machine under $100 to hem my pants. I don't need it to do any fancy needlework. All I need is to hem my pant legs. Can anyone recommend me any brands? Thanks alot! Asked by Snoopyfan - Thu Dec 18 19:16:58 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you're going to hem pants with a straight stitched-through hem (like jeans), any decent straight stitcher will do. I typically find old Singer 99s and 15s around for $0-20 that just need cleaning, oil and a new needle. If you want to do a more professional looking hem, such as is used on dress pants, you want a machine with a "blind hem stitch" (and ask for it to be demonstrated for you). Or you're going to learn to hem by hand... takes very little time and costs you a packet of hand sewing machine needles -- less than $1. With a budget of $100, you're either going to be going for a used machine or a new one that is not going to last long or be repairable.
