A pattern, from the French patron, is a type of theme of recurring events or objects, sometimes referred to as elements of a set. These elements repeat in a predictable manner. It can be a template or model which can be used to generate things or parts of a thing, especially if the things that are created have enough in common for the underlying pattern to be inferred, in which case the things are said to exhibit the unique pattern. Pattern matching is the act of checking for the presence of the constituents of a pattern, where as the detecting for underlying patterns is referred to as pattern recognition. The question of how a pattern emerges is accomplished through the work of the scientific field of pattern formation. The most basic patterns are based on repetition and periodicity. A single template, or cell, is combined with duplicates without change or modification. For example, simple harmonic oscillators produce repeated patterns of movement. Pattern recognition is more complex when templates are used to generate variants. For example, in English, sentences often follow the "N-VP" (noun - verb phrase) pattern, but some knowledge of the English language is required to detect the pattern. Computer science, ethology, and psychology are fields which study patterns.

I did a lab in AP Chemistry and we saw if certain reactions produced preecipitates or not. I had to write net ionic equations which I did. I need to know what some patterns are with regard to ions that tend to be of low solubility and those which tend to be of high solubility. Salts of higher valence cations (+2 or higher) are insoluble, unless they are chlorides or nitrates. Cations of +1 charge are soluble, except for silver. However, silver nitrate is soluble. Hydroxide salts of cations of +3 charge or higher are insoluble, except at low pH. Thus, for example, sodium chloride and silver nitrate are soluble, but if solutions are mixed, silver chloride precipitiates, leaving sodium nitrate in solution. Calcium nitrate mixed with sodium sulfate will precipitate calcium sulfate, leaving sodium nitrate in solution. Answered by Glenguin - Mon Nov 24 08:55:25 2008 How do you get your sleeping patterns back to normal or healthy? Q. 3am as I type this. I would like to go to bed at 11pm ideally. Lately I've had episodes of insomnia for a number of reasons. Anyhow, once you've been up until 5am, your sleep patterns are completely messed up as you can imagine. Any suggestions? Make yourself stay awake until a normal bedtime and then if you have problems sleeping..drink anything hot...try chammomile tea or hot chocolate extra creamy with milk...take a hot bath right before bed (long soaky til you're almost asleep). Some people say to excercise before bed but that always kept me awake as I had a lot of energy. Start keeping a really regular schedule. Get up at the same time every morning, eat at the same times, don't eat after 6 or 7 pm, go to bed at a good hour (you want 8 hours sleep) and don't get up once you do lay down to sleep. Even if you can't sleep...lay there. Keep your eyes closed and daydream until you fall back asleep. Bathe, climb into bed about an hour before you want to go to sleep and… [cont.] Answered by corrupted_bunny - Mon Mar 27 03:26:12 2006 How do I learn to make sewing patterns?

I'd probably start you with Don McCunn's How to Make Sewing Patterns, then send you on to more complete professional books when you'd worked through that. Or the beginning fashion school textbook, Patternmaking Made Easy, which also teaches technical balances -- most texts do not. Or I'd start you with draping, my first love -- good textbook is Connie Crawford's Art of Fashion Draping. And yes, if you can find a patternmaking or draping class locally, take it! They're very rare! Answered by kay - Sat Jan 3 11:07:56 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Patterns"
